For over 16 years, Mrs. McNutt has served Brevard Public Schools as a teacher, testing coordinator, dean, assistant principal, and principal.  Prior to education, she worked as an editor for a media distribution company and university.  After moving to Brevard, Mrs. McNutt started teaching ninth and eleventh grade English at Viera High School.  Eventually, she moved into leadership roles at Melbourne High School and Hoover Middle School and now serves as principal of the new middle school being built in Viera.  Cathy earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida, Master of Arts from Wake Forest University, and Master of Education in Educational Leadership from American College of Education.  She enjoys spending time with her family, walking and hiking, relaxing at the beach or pool, and cheering for the Gators.  Mrs. McNutt is dedicated to serving the Viera community and continuing to support student excellence.

Mrs. Hughes is a Brevard County native and attended Brevard Public Schools for grades K-12. She graduated from West Shore Junior/Senior High School and attended the University of Florida's Honors Program (Go Gators!) where she was a 4-year varsity member and captain of the UF Dazzlers dance team. She is a "double Gator" holding both a Bachelor of Science in Family, Youth,  and Community Sciences and a Master of Education in Higher Educational Leadership. During her time at Florida, she worked as a Graduate Coordinator in the UF Dean's Office, where she taught the university's student success course to incoming freshmen and was named the 2016-2017 New Instructor of the Year. 

She has proudly worked in BPS for the last seven years and this is her fourth year in school administration. Mrs. Hughes obtained her years of teaching experience at Port Malabar Elementary before obtaining her certification in Educational Leadership. She has developed positive school-wide policies and initiatives for various secondary schools to maximize learning, including two years in the Dean's Office at Palm Bay Magnet High School followed by a year as the Assistant Principal of Discipline (Dean) at Bayside High School. She is currently working as the Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Viera Middle School, where she is experiencing the excitement of opening a Year 1 school. She is most passionate about school climate and culture and is driven to establish a sense of pride, belonging, and unity among teachers, staff, and students. 

She is married to her husband Micah, who is also a UF alum, and they are parents to two small children - Mila (entering first grade) and Titus (age 3). In their free time, they enjoy going to the beach and cheering on their Gators!
